But sometimes the capsule develops excessively and produces a progressive hardening of the implant that can become deformed by the tension of the tissue. This is known as Contracture Capsular.
It usually appears after the first year of implant placement, and the patient can feel some sort of firmness or hardness in the breast. As time passes, it can deform the appearance of the breast and cause pain.
Although the causes of Capsular Contracture are not entirely known, there are precise specifications that our surgeons follow to reduce the risk:
